The other day I headed out for a friend's bday. It's one of those friends who has like 500 facebook friends and seems to know everyone. Sure, the fact that he's probably related to at least half of them in some way is of little or no consequence, but I was basically expecting to only know about 5 people. Usually I bail on these types of events but for some reason I decided to go.
I arrived a bit late, thanks to a last minute hair styling decision, and found about 30 of our crew already in the restaurant, 3 waitresses looking like they might loose their noodle and various other patrons throwing nasty glares at us. Evidently they weren't given the memo about how we usually take over a restaurant.
Since there were so many of us, tables of 6 were lined up against one wall of the restaurant with very little space in between to walk. If you were the sad soul stuck sitting by the wall, you better have the bladder of a camel because you weren't gonna move any time soon. Not knowing many people, I joined the few friends I did know at a table, and unfortunately blocked in one of the out of towner guests for the better part of 3 hours, forcing him to listen to my badly told stories, awkward jokes and slurry conversation. Good times were had, to be sure.
After dinner was mostly done and people were starting to mingle a bit more, one of the guys at our table turned to me and asked if I'm single. After confirming said status, he promptly asked, "Are you high maintenance?". Now how are you supposed to answer that? Besides, it's a completely subjective topic. What is considered "high maintenance"? A friend of mine takes 1 1/2 hrs to get ready, does that make him high maintenance? (yes that's right, it's a guy).
So not knowing exactly how to answer, I said "No, not really". Next thing you know, he starts talking up his brother. His brother, I might add, who's current opening line when hitting on a girl is: "Hey". Something I reminded this fine young lad of, and advised him that, though I'm not high maintenance, I am gonna need him to say something other than "Hey". His brother then magically appeared and was promptly introduced. I was informed that anything Windows 7 related - he was my man. I'm a Mac girl. Our match just wasn't in the cards. Such a shame.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for being set up by friends, but between the mother wanting to set me up with her son, the next door neighbour who might want a threesome and being introduced to a brother who's best line is "Hey", I think I'm in need of an imaginary (rich and uber hot) boyfriend. Streefy - does Consuelo have any brothers?

Looking for something?
I've been trying to decide on a new template for a few weeks now and man, is it hard! I mean, I know I hate making decisions as is, but when faced with so many options - seriously, it's time for eenie meening minee moh.
The more I stared at the various templates, the less I started to care. So I forced myself into some sort of elimination process. First to go were the templates with slideshows/magazine/online newpaper styles. Let's face it - I'm not nearly interesting enough to fill that much content on a blog. I then quickly realized that a 3 column layout also required me to lead a far more entertaining life for others to live vicariously through than I was prepared to lead. The only path left was of course, to group them by colours.
After hours of careful review (ok so maybe it was like a 10 min scan) I've finally narrowed it down to three. What do you guys think?
A while ago I was getting my sweater out of my car and happened to run into my next door neighbour. I've run into him a few times during the summer, usually garbed in head to toe biking gear. We started chatting, the usual neighbourly shoot the shit stuff. As we headed to the elevator, with his new bike gear, he happened to ask where I was headed to that evening. I informed him I was heading to dodgeball and was greeted with a response something along the lines of "Wow dodgeball really?! You just got sexier!"
After frantically changing the subject to anything but dodgeball, I vacated the elevator as fast as humanly possible, hating uncomfortable conversations involving me and the word "sexy" (or any variation thereof), especially when said by a stranger.
A few days later, whilst recovering from the horrid Tonsilitus, I heard a knock on the door and found my neighbour standing there just wanting to stop by and say hi. He had heard the feline meowing at the door and that was apparently a sign of invitation. To make matters worse, he promptly asked if he could come in to check out the layout of my apartment. As this time his girlfriend was accompanying him, I really didn't have a good reason for denying access - and considering this is only neighbour #2 that I've managed to remember the name of, I didn't want to appear rude.
As they stepped into my humble abode, they made friends with the cats and both eagerly invited me to stop by for a drink or dinner whenever I felt like it.
Awkward as it was, I was chatting with a friend recently about how Vancouver can be a hard place to make new friends (let alone date sometimes), that I considered the possibility that these slightly forward neighbours are just being friendly and I should accept their invitations and make some new friends in the building. After all, I've already estranged the lovely girl from directly across the hall from me (see Hello Morning for further deets on that smooth move of mine.) That or, as Justin suggested, they want a threesome.
