In a couple of days, Kmay, Streefy and I will be running the Vancouver half marathon, our second as a running trio. While I'm happy to report that running didn't break me like it did last summer, I am kind of excited for all the training to be over.
This past weekend's run was supposed to be 10 km, what would've been a welcomed change compared to the 17.5 km we did the week before which was grueling, painful and all around unpleasant. But at about 9 pm on Friday I got a text from Kmay and Streefy telling me to go get drunk because they were, and since it was going to be raining Sat morning, we might as well take advantage of the free night and get blitzed. Which we all did.
Now that we're extra prepared for the 21.1 km this coming weekend, if anyone happens to be around BC Place on May 2nd, around say...9:00/9:30am....please come by and say hi and feel free to cheer us on, believe me, I'm sure we'll need all the extra encouragement we can get to cross the finish line. Plus we're going for a greasy spoon type breakfast after the run which you're more than welcome to tag along for.

Looking for something?
Ok maybe just aspire to be one.
A while ago I sold my little SUV to a good family living in the 'burbs. (For those who don't know, I use to have a red and white Mini) I have to admit, I was a little shocked at my own calm reaction. I expected to have a drama queen moment and suddenly regret my decision to sell my car. But when I handed over the keys, I walked across the street and never looked back. Turns out, I was ready to move on. Who knew?
I decided to spend part of my new found riches on a proper camera - a Nikon D5000 with a 18-105mm lens. Sure, some may argue, *cough* Joe *cough*, that I should have gone with a newer model, and while they may have a point, let's face it - that's just too much camera for me. Seriously. I'm mean, I'm not even sure my brain is wired properly to recognize a good shot when it smacks me upside the head. So let's not get ahead of ourselves with the gear just yet.
I've signed up for an intro course and after walking out of the 2nd class, I was completely overwhelmed, and not gonna lie, a little scared. There is so much to know! Aperture, shutter speed, ISO, White balance, f stops...and let's not forget about the most important part - the composition of the picture itself!
Thankfully Kmay and Jojo agreed to go take pictures with me last weekend so I could play around with the different settings and start to get used to them. Here's a few that I took that day. Stay tuned for more, hopefully better, photos in the future!
In case you've missed it, Streefy tried out for Roller Derby earlier this year. Being a newbie (or Fresh Meat,in derby terms) she unfortunately didn't make the team, but decided to become a ref.
A couple of weekends ago, Jojo, Kpapp and I heading down to Kerrisdale to cheer on Streefy's first appearance as a ref. All I can say is, man those girls are tough!!!
We arrived for the first game, and after realizing that I'd forgotten my id so we couldn't partake in tasty beer drinking with Oli, Justin, Emma and Lo who also happened to be there, and Streefy's new man Matt who we were excited to meet, we managed to find a great spot to watch Streef Legal in her debut. Of course her debut didn't start till about 9pm, but at least we had some entertainment in the form of a slightly overweight gal named Suzie Shameless - #420 for the first game. I only wish I had a picture of her, she was something else!
Is the best game you can name....
Ok, enough singing. It's playoff season in Vancouver and the city is excited. At least that's what I'm guessing based on how quiet the city was on Thursday as I made my way home around 7:30 pm. Seriously, Vancouver was just one tumbleweed short of a ghost town. Apparently the hockey fever from the Olympics has picked right up again for the playoffs and everyone was in front of a TV somewhere.
In honor of the playoffs, I've decided to join a playoff hockey pool with Quachamole & a couple of other friends. It's free to join, which was really my only deciding factor. While there's no method to my madness in choosing my playoff team for Round 1, I guess I managed to pick some key players because as of this morning - I'm 2nd in the "Meat Locker" group that Quachamole created, sandwiched between Agentspanky and Tantastik.
Wow - that's awkward.
I'm sure everyone knows, my taste in movies varies from the ultimate cheese to the fairly great movies, with a predilection towards cheese. (I mean, I like the Twilight movies, enough said) Clearly I'm not an expert on films and I usually differ to my friend Scotty over at the Bloated Penguin for a more in depth review of upcoming films.
That being said, I am kinda interested to see these two sequels. I'm not usually a fan of sequels, mostly because the movie big wigs seem to only make a sequel if the first movie reaches unexpectedly high revenue numbers, resulting in a mega-budget, big-name let down. While occasionally a sequel ends up being a great movie, I'm still not sure about these two. I want them to do well and be good movies, but I'm pretty skeptical.
